Ellen Krauss/Joshua Radin  – Nottingham Bodega (January 28, 2025)

Some double bills are just so perfect you cannot resist. Here we have two singer songwriters at opposite ends of the age spectrum.

Joshua from Ohio has been with us for many years quietly producing mellow thoughtful albums that are both engaging and a delight to the ears.

Ellen on the other hand is just embarking upon her journey, hailing from Sweden she’s only 25.

Joshua delivered a set that held the congregation in thrall, he wraps the audience around his fingers, tells stories about the songs and is meticulous in his delivery.

Ellen

But with all due respect to Joshua, it is Ellen who impresses more. She’s on her fantastic second album now (Romeo) and her natural artistry shines through. She’s confident but not too showy. Opening with Picking up her songs are both fun and playful Cherry on top for instance but also deep, as exemplified by Secrets with its tremendous anthemic melody.

Dare I say, she has a touch of Joni Mitchell about those lyrics, combine that with some catchy tunes and Ellen should be a household name by the time of her third album.
