What do 50,000 bees , a bearded gentleman by the unlikely name of Wolfgang Buttress, an environmental message and a member of the legendary rock band Spiritualized ( Tony Foster) have in common?
Well Wolfgang is an award winning Nottingham based multi media guru. With the help of the local University, who have provided him with a recording of their large colony of bees, he has conceived a wonderful project called The Hive.
The show goes like this, firstly we get a spoken short history of the bee in art and literature and an emphasis on mankind’s destructive nature toward his environment.
Then a performance from Karmen Line Collective. Its a live immersive experience in which these five musicians and Wolfgang improvise on stage with the varied sounds of the bees providing an audio backdrop as the musicians do their thing. Two guitars, a cello, percussion, keyboards and a vocalist.
In front of them, a flimsy gauze like material onto which beautiful and surreal 3D images of bees are projected. It was really quite beautiful and not a little trippy!
This was the first of three performances on a Saturday in Nottingham of a show that has been performed nationwide variously at the Glastonbury, Blue Dot and End of the Road festivals.
Ambient music with the emphasis on the B.
